My original question in asking whether composers have transcribed their
own works for alternate instruments in different keys from which they
were written was obviously to get at the importance of the "color" of a
key vs. the convenience of the player. It seems to me that if Mozart
transposed his oboe concerto into a different key for the flute, he must
have been considering the ease of playing in a particular key as being
of greater importance than the "color". Unless the "color" of a key is
different on different instruments! Does anyone know what key
Khachaturian's violin concerto is in when played on the flute? I don't
believe it was Khachaturian who did the transcription, but rather gave
permission to Rampal or someone similar to do. But, curious if this was
transposed as well....
