I have always had difficulty recognizing a significant benefit from properly
conditioning my reeds - The reed out of the box often seems equal to or
better than the reeds I condition according to the book and I admittedly get
a bit lazy in the conditioning of my reeds.-- John's
qualifyer "properly conditioned" was a flag for me. Does reed conditioning
help the response under the non-ideal conditions that I described.? -- If
it does I'll change my ways.

John's comment on the mental aspect and one's expectation of the reeds
performance was particularly interesting and I suspect a big part of my
problem.
