I play alto sax, and sometimes clarinet, every Sunday in my church's
"orchestra" (piano, organ, guitar, electric bass, trombone, trumpet, and
alto sax). When I'm using a regular cane reed that's been sitting for a
while, I make sure to wet it in my mouth occasionally, and blow softly
through the horn to warm it up. I normally use a plastic coated reed
(Plasticover), though, and it can't dry out because it's never wet.

I guess maybe my standards are lower than yours though, (at least I don't
have your credentials), so perhaps my answers are not very helpful to you.

Hey, just because I _look_ dumb doesn't mean I'm _not_!
