The recording by Neidich, praised by some and returned by others, of the
Weber Concertino and Concerti and the Rossini Variations is marvelous, in my
opinion. The Weber works were written because of the talents of Baermann and
I don't have a problem with someone of Neidich's skills displaying his
ability to triple tongue. My teacher pointed out that most of the
articulations we see in many editions of Weber and other composers aren't in
the manuscript, i. e., the articulation is left to the performer.

On this recording, Neidich also uses circular breathing, in the cadenza of
the Rossini. Neidich was briefly on the faculty of the Eastman School of
Music here in Rochester and I heard him play, as an encore, the Paganini
"Perpetual Motion" using circular breathing. That's three pages of sixteenth
notes without a break!

Sure - I have and enjoy other recordings of clarinet classics in more
traditional readings, but I'll buy most anything Neidich records!
