Goodman did commission many concerti and chamber works but you may have
the Bartok commission mixed up with something else. Goodman commissioned
the Contrasts but I know of no concerto discussion that he had with Bartok.
He also commissioned the Milhaud concerto but it was never very successful.
I suspect that Goodman's greatest contribution to the world of music - and
he certainly made many - will eventually turn out to be the music he
commissioned. For the Bartok comission alone his name will be immortal
just as the Bach Goldberg variations remind us of a person whose lifetime
accomplishments have all been forgotten except that he influenced Bach.
