Dear Adam;
I performed this work with Rosie Harbison and if I remember
correctly, I also don't have the music in front of me, you are speaking
of the "Aria" - number XV probably. Anyway, isn't there a tacet for the
first repeat of the first phrase and then the clar/violin continue for
the second phrase and repeat that tacet?
Good luck with this work; you'll find it very rewarding and one of
the most difficult ensemble pieces you'll deal with. I believe it to be
a major contribution to the repertoire. Oh yes, John Harbison was with
us for the performance and the suggestion was to pick up the tempo of the
last movenment beyond the one marked. Sorry about that but they felt it
gave the movement much punch!
