Hello....

Quick question: My copy of Messager's Solo de Concours has written at
the top "Concours du Conservatoire National de Musique". Is that the
same as the Paris Conservatory? (And Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie was
written for the Paris Conservatory, right?)

A little bit of history, huh?

This happened in my lesson the other day. I was playing a Jeanjean etude
for my teacher. She pointed out a sixteenth and dotted eighth rhythm,
and said I was snapping it too much. I asked, "Well, isn't that rhythm
known as the Scotch snap?" Immediately she shot back, "Not in French
music it's not!" We both had a good laugh over that.
