I indicated about a month ago that a local person wanted to sell her two
basset horns. One of them, a really excellent Buffet, will be going to
its new owner in Germany at the end of June. The second is going to be
used by a local person who has always expressed an interest in owning one.

But both of them are sitting in my living room. Next to them are my two
basset horns out because I am verifying that they are in good playing shape
for the multiple Mozart Requies that I am doing in June.

So that says that, at this moment, I have four basset horns in my home!!
How many places in American can make that statement? Not only am I the
best basset hornist on my street in Los Altos, but I have more basset horns
per square inch than any other kid on the block!!!

I am considering moving to El Centro, California because it is a vast,
barren region in the middle of the largest county in California which
also has the fewest number of inhabitants!! If I move there, I can be the
best basset hornist in a large county. That would look good on a
curriculum vita. Suppose I were to move to Idaho or Montana. Could I be
the best in the state?

"Hi folks! I'm Montana's best basset hornist. I'm a rootin', tootin'
hog-callin', ridin', ropin, fool of a basset hornist. I can play Elektra
while huntin' down stray doggies all day. And at night, under the big
sky, sittin' around the campfire, I take out my basset horn and play
those old time tunes that the cowpokes like. Tunes like 'Non piu
di fiori' from Titus, and the 'Happy Workshop'. And the cook laughs a
little and says, 'Not allegro grazioso you damn fool. It needs more
of an allegretto feeling, don't you agree? Eat some beans."
