This is my first message to "Klarinet", although I've been reading messages
for a couple of weeks. As an introduction, I'm Don Yungkurth, in the
Rochester, New York area. I'm an amatuer and play clarinet in two local
community orchestras.

In case anyone is interested or if it might help in finding a good copy of
the parts for the Beethoven 7th Nonet, there is a CD of this arrangement
available by the group "Octophoros" on the Accent label as ACC 48434D. This
is apparently a Belgian Company. There is essentially no information on the
group, but the recording was made in 1984 at "Sint Gilliskerk- Brugge", I
assume a church in the Belgian city Bruges.

The notes do indicate that the arrangement is by Wenzel
Sedlak and that it was first published in Vienna in 1815 by Artaria. This
sounds like and earlier date and a different publisher than mentioned by
Leeson. The rest of the notes are rather general about Harmonie music. The
recording uses "original" or reproduction instruments but sounds much like
modern instruments, i.e, they play in tune and have a complex sound.

I have a second Beethoven CD that I simply couldn't pass, because of the
title, "Beethoven Septet for 9 Winds"! This is, of course, the Op. 20
Septet in a Harmonie arrangement. The notes are again rather thin, but the
arranger is apparently a Bohemian, Jiri Drulecky. The performance is by
Collegium Musicum Pragense and is on Fidelio 1837, apparently licensed from
Supraphon. There is no information given, but I asssum it is performed on
modern instruments.
