Eons ago when I first picked up a clarinet it was a one piece, all
metal thing that weighed a pound and could double as a baseball bat,
BUT it was a clarinet and the tone wasn't half bad. Surely you could
pick one of these in a pawnshop or second hand store for next to
nothing. Also what is wrong with the composition clarinets that Yamaha
(among others) are cranking out by the hundreds? They're made of the
same basic material as a bowling ball, I think. The ones I've seen run
$2 or 300 and come in a variety of colors to boot :-) John
