Andrew,
I add my encouragement to you, along with all of the other responses you
have received. Tom Ascher's message is especially relevant... 38 is not old!
I, too, started in my mid fifties. You are, I hope, young enough that you
won't have to cope with reading glasses, middle vision glasses, bifocals,
etc. Learning how to read music is a task similar to learning a new language
which doesn't use the Roman Alphabet. It requires focus, discipline and
practice, but like learning a new language it is rewarding and gives
satisfactions. (Of course, clarinet is the right instrument!)
