Tom,

I noted that one of the replies to your inquiry suggested
Rossini's "Introduction, Theme and Variations for Clarinet and Piano."

I'd like to also suggest another Rossini solo, which I
performed with an orchestra, namely, "Variations for Clarinet and Small
Orchestra." I don't know the duration, but I'm certain it's shorter than
the other one and, if necessary, could be tailored to the five-minute
limit by dropping a variation.

The two printings of the piece I know of are by Kalmus and
Editions Musicales Transatlantiques. There are also recordings of the
piece, including an excellent one on oboe (believe it or not) by Heinz
Holliger. Be assured, however, that it was written for clarinet solo.
