Close... 60 Hz is the U.S. standard, and it's quite accurate, especially
on the average, since clocks use the 60 Hz at their time reference.

55 Hz is three octaves below A440. Using an even-tempered scale,
A : 55.000 Hz
A#: 58.270 Hz
B : 61.735 Hz
C : 65.406 Hz
etc...

>From the above numbers, it appears that 60 Hz is almost exactly half way
between A# and B. That's about a 50 cent error, and adjusting for some
other temperament will only move things 10 cents or so.
