The show you refer to was no a NOVA production but a NATURE production.
It was shown at least twice on NPTV about 6 months between the two
showing.

It showed the natives chopping down a tree, bringing it to a village,
making statuary out of it, sending pieces off to Buffet in Paris, etc.

Are you aware when you look at an orchestra, you see a forest of mpingo
wood. The fingerboards of stringed instruments are mpingo.
