Subj: has the clarinet changed?

Obviously the instrument hasn't changed but I was about to post the same
query also. While it may be due to recording equipment (though I doubt it)
has anyone else noticed that some modern players (especially Eddie Daniels
and Richard Stoltzman get a vibrato unlike any heard before? It's not like
"legit vibrato" it's just like they hit a high note and it gives the same
feeling you get every time you listen to David Sanborn or the guy on
Saturday Night Live hit a altissimo note.
Good question. While the instrument certainly hasn't changed the players
have. And I'm excited....

Mike Cassara,
Cleveland, Ohio

By the way. As I am writing this I am listening to Visions which is
Stoltzmans latest effort that includes many movie themes. While it may seem
too "commercial" for many, I must say (as many of you probably know) I am
much less concerned with technical aspects of music than I am sound.
Someday I hope to reach a sound at the level of Eddie Daniels... Someday...
