This "stepping down" as it were, does happen. For many years Frank
Crisafulli was the Pricipal Trombone of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra,
but when a certain Jay Allen Friedman graduated from College, he assumed
the Pricipal chair, and Frank moved "down" to second Trombone.
