Fred Jacobowits's comments clarify for me something I have noticed in my
music listening, but not fully understood. I took up the clarinet because
of its wide range and a tone that for me is mellower and closer to "singing"
than most other instruments. But, in listening to performances
of much of the "classical" repertoire I've found the music dry, cerebral,
and not especially appealing for my tastes! I guess I prefer the more
emotional approach of the klezmer, jazz or whatever.
