sorry i need to finish
These basic musical skills should apply to both idioms.
Ever listen to a guy (and not watch for a clarinet angle) and be critical of
his time or his pitch? I'm sure you have.
In your critique of Stoltzman, what might have been bothering you was not his
"Classical Backgound" but more his time when he plays jazz. Obviously it is
different than when he plays Mozart.

Both idioms require refinement. I'm sure you know what you need for classical
playing and Benny Goodman did too when he studied.
As for Eddie Daniels, his teachers, Allard and Bonade didn't exactly tell
him it was ok to just blow the licorice stick when the rhythm section is
swinging. He went through Langenus and Klose and all those other guys while
trying to cut Pepper Adams a new one at the Village Vanguard.
I can't tell how many people i know who cover it all. Same setup, same horn,
same great musical attitude.
Good thing you had your tux on.
