Have any of the jazz clarinetists used a classical sound?

>From all I've read and heard, the great jazzers played Alberts, LeBlancs
and Selmers designed to produce a "bright" edgy sound (stuff it, Dan).
They use set-ups with open "jazz" mouthpieces and tend to go for softer
reeds.

Does any jazz clarinetist play a Buffet with tighter mouthpiece and hard
reeds? Most of the members of KLARINET lean toward the classics and the
"darker" sound. Do any of you use a Buffet and a classic set-up to play jazz?

I prefer jazz to classical, but I'm hooked on the tone I get from my
Buffet with a B45 and 3-4 Vandoren reeds. I'm a struggling improvisor who
fears that he sounds like "Pavarotti Sings The Best of Satchmo".

Any opinions on this?
