I feel that a compromise might be in order with respect to becoming proficient
on the bass clarinet, where you use both a bass clarinet method book of some
kind, as well as the standard soprano method books. Ultimately, I think that a
bass clarinetist should be able to play anything that is playable on the
soprano clarinet, short of the limitation in range of the instrument. If you
don't have a bass clarinet method book handy (I can only think of the Michael
Drapkin bass clarinet excerpts book at the moment), starting out on the
Baermann or Eugen Gay books would certainly be helpful.
