The orchestra is mostly from Eugene and other parts of Oregon, with
(very roughly) 20 percent from the Los Angeles area and 10 percent
from Germany. With the emphasis on baroque music, there's a lot less
for the clarinets to do than there is for other winds, although they
do some newer music each year (the Verdi Requiem and the premiere of
Arvo Paert's "Litany" in 1994, for example). It's a wonderful
festival, and the high point of my musical year, as an audience
member and occasional choir member.
