I found it much too hard on my bass clarinet considering that you
end up getting drowned out by the saxophones and tubas anyway.
The smaller clarinets seem to handle the kind of abuse that marching
inflicts on your instrument much better. I actually liked marching
with it fine, and would again if it weren't for the repair and adjustment
bills. My favorite part of marching with a bass clarinet was watching
the crowd react to it-- Typical Kid: "Mommy, what's that thing?"
Mommy: "That's a bassoon, honey."
