Hi gang,
I have been told that when testing a clarinet it is always wise to test D in
the staff. Why is it that this note is important in determining an
instruments value? Has anyone else heard this?
Does anyone have any theories for notes that hold value when testing? I
realize the D is important as 1. The majority of the holes are covered. 2.
It's right above the break. 3. It's higher and tone would be a
consideration. Anyone have any ideas.

Favorite note has gotta be a F# at the top of the staff. It seems to be
compatabile in most keys even it doesn't legitimately fit. I also like
plain old open G. This, I have found is the greatest note to practice with
to correct embouchre problems, practice tonguing and probably gain tongue
strength. If you're having trouble don't work with added stress such as
worrying about fingerings. Instead just play an open G and fix it.
