It goes without saying that there are a variety of diverse talents and
professions associated with people who visit this list. We have had
anatomists to explain specific body parts and their precise involvement
with clarinet things, we have had therapists who spoke of the exact
function of the diaphraghm in expelling air, we have had ear-nose-throat
specialists who spoke of the role of the vocal chords in vibrato, and
once in a while we even have a clarinet player or two who tells us other
things.

IT'S WONDERFUL!!!

Now, Steve comes along and gives us not only the benefit of his expertise
on tendonitis and the problems that overuse of tendons for long periods
will cause, but also was kind enough to support his statements with
specific studies as referenced in various speciality journals.

I have been fortunate in that tendonitis bothered me only once in my
career and it was not due to playing. But at the time I had the problem,
whatever the cause, I could well visualize myself not playing again and
I was prepared to do anything to find out information that would help me.

My reaction is that I will wade through 500 messages about "How do I find
good reeds?" to find something as valuable as Steve's contribution to
this list and I offer him my thanks for his knowledge, his courtesy, his
recognition of the importance of the problem, and his brief but
important message on the potential dangers of ignoring it.

If I am ever up in his area, I will deliberately get sick with something
so as to give him additional business. Would dengue fever do, Steve?
