Your ring probably became stuck as the wood on the inside of the barrel
became wet while you were playing. This causes the wood to swell and a
ring which was very close to the socket diameter will get stuck.

The best solution, which you may have already discovered, is to let
the socket dry out. The ring should come right out once the wood
shrinks after loosing the moisture allowing the socket to become
larger. I would not suggest using anything to pry the ring out because
you may damage the bore. If the ring does not come out after letting
the barrel dry naturally put the joint in an area in which warm dry air
will circulate through the bore.

If you need to use warm air, do not let the joint get too warm. A very
gentle warming is what you need to do. Do not rush this process.

Once the ring is out, you can use a fine grain sandpaper or a file
to remove a little material from the sides. I find the easiest
method is to put the sandpaper (I use 400 wet or dry) on a flat
surface and rotate the edge of the ring as I drag it across the
sandpaper.

Hope this helps.
