Laura,
I had that happen once to me and I just gently tried to wedge it
out with the end of my jeweler's screwdriver. It worked. However, if
you don't want to risk gouging your barrel, you might try cooling or heating
the barrel to the point where the bore changes enough to allow the ring to
get un-stuck. I think, if I remember correctly, that cooling it is the
way to go. Once it is out, put it on some abrasive if it's metal, use a
metal file, and grind it smaller so it wont ever get stuck again. Good luck.
