Subj: Basset horn for sale

It is not my basset horn, but there is one for sale here locally. The
story is this.

A woman who has lived in the SF Bay area for a number of years is planning
to retire soon and move to another area over by Palm Springs. She has
two basset horns, one a Buffet and one a Selmer. Both date from ca. 1962.
It is the Buffet she wants to sell.

I bumped into her at a concert last night and she asked me to put the word
out.

I can only tell you this about the instrument: she and I did a Mozart Requiem
about 10 years ago and the instrument seemed to be in tune though, like
most Buffet and Selmer basset horns dating from the 1960s, it was sharp and
the bocal had to be pulled out. I noticed the bocal position at once since
my instrument is the same way.

Contact me privately if you want to be put in touch with the woman. The
deal is this: for seriously interested buyers she is prepared to negotiate
the following way; an intermediate party who both of you know will be
selected and s/he must vouch for you; then a check goes from you to the
owner, the basset horn from the owner to you. You have a month to try it
out. You like it, she cashes the check. You don't like it, you return
the basset horn, she returns the check. You pay shipping costs both ways.
If you buy it, she eats the shipping costs.

I have no stake in this. I am only acting as a messenger. Any questions
you have, ask me privately. If I did not already have two basset horns
I would buy this one. Price available on request.

She also has available a C clarinet made in London in 1805. It is not
in playable condition but could be put in playable condition. There is
no mouthpiece and one ivory ring is missing. The instrument is a 5-keyed
clarinet. I have now told you more than I know. Contact me privately
if interested.
