This talk about soprano saxophones is intriguing to me. I'm considering
doing some doubling work on a tenor saxophone. With that in mind,
I dug out my Band's loaner tenor sax (in fairly good shape) and was
very surprised at how responsive the mouthpiece was compared to my
clarinet & bass clarinet. I could see that I'll have some serious
intonation problems without some serious practice, but the flip
side was that vibratos and bending notes were easy, especially since I've
been pretty frustrated with trying those techniques on my clarinets.

About this list, I've learned AMAZING amounts of information just
reading this list. As a mere hobbyist, I've done some changes
suggested here, such as switching to better reeds and correcting
some sloppy embouchre habits, and the results have helped me become a
much better player. I've also been inspired to take lessons and
listen to clarinet music, jazz, classical and world beat.

Considering the responsiveness of the tenor sax, and I gather the
soprano sax, I'm wondering if there are mouthpieces for the clarinet
that can create that kind of response. I'd like to wean myself
off my stock mouthpieces into some better ones suited for both
classical and jazz playing. I'd consider buying two mouthpieces
per horn, but considering this is an avocation, I'd like to keep the
costs down somewhat-- is under $200.00 a mouthpiece reasonable?

Overall, I can truly say that I'm a better clarinetist because of this list.
Thank you everyone.
