I agree that intonation is a great problem with sopranos, but it can be
overcome. The right mouthpiece is crucial. I play an old 20's Beuscher
and I love the tone, which is preferable for me to any modern horn. I
can play in tune due to the way I play and an old Selmer mouthpiece. I
also have a curved Conn from the same period, and while I love the tone,
I cannot for the life of me play it in tune! It can be done, as Bob
Wilbur and Jim Gallaway play the same model and are absolutely on pitch!
I may have to sell mine, as it is probbaly me, not the horn! I think
certain people have more aptitude for certain horns. I sound better on
the old soprano than on my Selmer Mark VI alto, for others it would be
the other way around.
