Don't let people fool you. The soprano sax can be painful in the wrong hands.
Of all the saxes, the slightest change in embochure or air flow can make or
break it.
Doubling on soprano for a clarinetist is OK but not common. In a traditional
jazz setting or Dixieland, it is very common.
With good clarinet experience, I feel a move to the soprano can be done.
Both instruments have their difficulties. I don't think one is easier than
the other. Pitch on the soprano can be tough, especially with the wrong
instrument. Pitch can be tough on the clarinet as well. It is good to know
both instruments (all clarinets and saxes for that matter) so when you are
playing with someone, you know the tendencies.
