Yes, I have noticed similar trends!! I assume that Selmer horns used to be
"the thing". <G> My first horn was a Selmer....I think because it had the
best price at the time. These days (at least down here) I see a lot of young
players starting out on plastic Bundys (no comment), Buffets, and Yamahas. I
really don't see many LeBlancs, etc. Unfortunately, most parents look for
the cheapest horns in some instances (plastic Bundy??) and don't realize the
importance of horn SELECTION.

It's strange how that happens. Actually, my instructor pointed out the
abundance of Yamahas in the school systems down here in Texas (she is
originally from Illinois...used to teach in Ohio). It does seem to be that
way. It is interesting how differently horns play for some folks. A
colleague of mine had me try out a LeBlanc Opus Concerto model....and it just
did NOT work for me. It was awful!! Yet, he sounded beautiful on it! I was
amazed. For me, the Yamaha models have always worked better, so that's what
I've stayed with. My instructor prefers the Buffets. We have INTERESTING
conversations...haha! However, if I located a Buffet that worked better for
ME than my Yamaha, I would buy it. Doesn't that just make sense?? <G>

I strongly believe in trying MANY brands (even those you believe to be
unreliable)....it's the only way to find a charm.
