Gary,

Assuming the instrument is wood I don't think you did any damage. The
bubbling could be a problem though. You might have "torched" the wood,
bringing the oils to the surface and hardening them. Alcohol
(denatured, not rubbing) can be used to remove the "bumps". Sometimes
you can just flick them off with your finger. (Don't use alcohol on a
plastic clarinet.)

The discoloration: Use a permanent black marker and color the
discolored area. Buff the area with a cotton cloth to blend the color
to match the rest of the instrument.

Incidentally, don't use a lighter on your instrument.
