Until recently, it never occurred to me to bring up the subject of a
favorite recording but I recently acquired a new CD titled: The
American Clarinet, with Larry Combs, Bradley Opland (double bass) and
Deborah Sobol (piano). This includes Sonata for Clarinet & Piano (Aaron
Copland) Sonata for Clarinet & Piano (Leonard Bernstein) Three Preludes
for Piano (George Gerswin, arranged for clarinet and piano by James Cohn)
and Benny's Gig for Clarinet & Double Bass (Morton Gould). Its been sitting
on a shelf for about a week waiting to be played and I finally listened to
it this evening. What a delightful variety of pieces that really use and
show off the clarinet, and what lovely tonality and expression from
Larry Combs. I guess this has to be, for now, my favorite clarinet
CD. Does anyone else have a particular recording (preferably an in
print CD) that they'd like to recommend?!
