Dannene, I can't help re the Milhaud or the Bartok, but what would you
consider "interesting" re the history of the basset horn? How interesting
do you want it? It is not clear to me how I can help you because I
really don't know what you would find of value. Can you be a little more
clear? There are lots of sources for finding out what is thought to be
the origina of the basset horn; there are entire books on the subject.

The Grove's dictionary has an excellent article on the origin of the
instrument.

In general you can get much better help if you tell a little more about
what you need.
