Dan Leeson's comments about eating before playing reminded me of the
story about Irving Fazola's clarinet. I hope the story's not apocryphal,
and perhaps someone on the list can confirm, correct, or deny it.
Anyway, after Fazola's death, Pete Fountain, who had admired Fazola,
somehow acquired the horn that Fazola had played for many years.
Fountain was delighted to have it, and he immediately began to perform
with it. When his breath warmed up the clarinet, however, Fountain
became conscious of a fierce, cloying garlic smell, rising from the wood.
