You can use a rub-on plating product to prevent silver plate from wearing
through. One such product is available from

It is called Liquid Silver. It will probably not work over the base metal. It
will not plate over nickel, just copper, brass, silver, etc. Also,
it must be used with extreme caution until you verify that it is compatible with
the plate job on your keys. Some triple plate, or just
poorly plated keys can be set back by the application of Liquid Silver. It can,
I've heard, under certain conditions bubble up the existing
plating so care must be taken at first. When it works, it works very well and
will add silver to the keys each time it is used.

You can send the keys to be plated, which will allow a heavy application of your
favorite metal. I myself have a commercial plating
machine but just do it for a hobby. Scott Hirsch
