You're talking about the descending line of 7 notes immediately preceding the
sacrificial dance of the virgin, right? I can not imagine anybody taking the
last notes up an octave! I've never heard a recording with it done that way,
and I've seen the SF Symphony (and the Youth Orchestra as well) play the piece
several times. Don Carrol's response to your conductor's iritation would be,
"What makes musical sense, sir? Is this really what Stravinsky had in mind?"
But, I suppose if Blomstedt had exploded in similar fashion (which he would
never do, of course), Don would have had to acquiesce as well.
