Dunja,
I'm not ashamed to say publicly that I greatly admire Charlie's playing
and I believe he has easily the fastest fingers and tongue in the world.
He also has more musicality in his little finger than all the orchestra
drones combined (and there are TONS of them, many sitting principal
clarinet in some big orchestras, too). If you try to do even half the
musical things Charlie recommends you will be well on your way to playing
music and not just notes. Some in the clarinet world like to put him
down because he doesn't have the "Marcelus" sound or the "Wright " sound,
or whoever they think has the most beautiful tone quality. Don't fall
into that trap - as any string player or singer will tell you, it's not
the tone qualtity which counts but the musicality. And universally,
string players rave about Charlie's playing.
