Hello multiple subscribers to the clarinet thingie, but specifically
Bill Hall.
I too believe that a hard rubber/plastic mouthpiece for alto sax is a
better play than the metal type. Metal mouthpieces are a harder blow and
so unsuitable for more delicate playing. It is also simply unacceptable
for classical repertoire.
The Selmer c* for alto is the best and most widely played in Australia
although the Selmer180 is also becoming popular (and cheaper).
Now for the plastic reeds. Plastic reeds really will not deliver the
best sound and if you don't like the rico/van doren/hemke etc etc etc
selection available I recommend that you try the "Vintage" or "Studio
Plus" reed made by the Reeds Australia. If anyone wants some and has
problems getting them, contact me (Jennifer) at MY email address [not the
Klarinet group). Vintage are warm, and full bodied for classical and
Studio Plus are free blowing and clean for jazz, pop, funk or light
classical. Available for sax or clarinet and retail $A30 for 10 reeds,
(About $US20.)
