I ahve just completed orthodontic treatment for tmj disease and
the dentist made me an *Essex Retainer* to wear. It's a very
thin plastic device that looks something like an athlete's
mouth guard. I'll keep you posted as to how effective it is.
In the mean time, you might try dental xylocaine, which your
dentist can prescribe for you. Good luck!
