I want to thank Edgar for his pointing out factors outside of the
material that influence the playing. I have wanted to say something
about that subject but did not want to give the impression of
repeating myself.

Particularly with respect to the character of the sound of the
resin instrument as contrasted with wooden ones, there was a suggestion
from a player in St. Louis that asserted that the wood ones sounded
better.

Without wishing to start that argument over again, I would ask that
person to search the data base of KLARINET for a very lengthy
discussion of the influence (or lack thereof) of the medium of the
instrument on the character of its sound.

There are certainly many people who would argue that the any differences
in the sound character of a resin instrument as contrasted with one of
wood (as further contrasted with one of glass, boxwood, bamboo, etc.)
may be only in the mind of the hearer and do not exist in fact.
