Neil,
Yes, They both use straps. Kalman showed me a metal ring he'd had
braised onto his thumb rest and suggested I do the same. His repairman did
the work for me. As for Michele, she uses a strap that connects to the
existing thumb rest. I saw her use it at a recital last October. When I
use one, it makes playing incomparably easier because of the improved weight
distribution. The one problem is that my left thumb touches the strap when
I lift it off the hole; this takes some getting used to.
