About 25 years ago I asked my dentist to make me a tooth guard. He took
an already-existing plaster cast of my lowers, heated up some plastic,
wrapped the heat-softened plastic around the effigy of my central and lateral
incisors, and viola!

I used this thing until I lost it about 2 months ago. It was great.

The plastic was either styrene or polystyrene, I can't remember which.

When I asked him what he was charging for it, he said -- Let's call it an
experiment.
