I've picked up the basset horn (basset hound =) for quartet, and am using
alto sax reeds on it (Rico Royal #3). I've got a few problems, but those
are mostly related to my inexperience on the basset horn (this is the first
time I've ever played either it or the alto), and the usual bad throat tones.

I use tenor sax reeds on my setup (Selmer low C bass, Selmer C*
mouthpiece, stock ligature) and love 'em to death. The first time I put
on a tenor sax reed, I got the HUGEST sound I'd ever had on a bass! Now
if I could only find some good contra reeds...oh heck, if I could only
find a good contra =)
