My last post on the subject, I promise.

I realize the Dan Leeson is proposing owning a C clarinet, and a D
clarinet, and an A bass clarinet, and I think that that is an admirable
goal.

However, reality is that it will be many years before I have completed
my collection of instruments, and these are just not very high on
my list.

My current list: Flute, Eb Clarinet, Bb Clarinet, Alto Clarinet,
Bass Clarinet, Soprano Sax, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Oboe

Borrowed: Piccolo, Eb Contra-alto Clarinet, BBb Contrabass Clarinet,
Alto Sax

Want list in priority order: Alto Sax, Piccolo, BBb Contrabass Clarinet,
Eb Contra-alto Clarinet, Bass Sax, English Horn, Bassoon, Alto Flute,
(random misc. weird transpositions such a C clarinet, bass flute,
melody sax, etc.)

I have to prioritize my instruments that I purchase with how much I play
them. When I have to transpose a C Clarinet part, and everybody else
in the section is also transposing, I don't feel too bad about not
owning one. This has only happened to me once. I have also only had
to transpose A bass clarinet parts once.

I also have a mortgage, and would like to replace my car soon. Eventually,
I will get the instruments I need. Until then, transposition is vital.
