Lis--

The tempo marked on your Mozart Concerto is the tempo that I play it at and
also the tempo that most clarinet players I've come into contact with play it
at. I have heard it played slower and faster and all sound good, it's just a
matter of what tempo can you be most convincing with. It does no good to play
something fast and have none of your ideas come across and vice versa with a
slower tempo. Find a tempo that's comfortable for you and that you can make
work and stick with it regardless of what other people do. (of course try not
to go too far off the deep end in either direction!!!) <G>

The 32nd notes in the first movement. Sub-divide the preceeding quarter note
into eighth notes and then when you get to the 32nds it's four 32nds to the
eighth note. Quite simple, the same thing as playing four sixteenth notes to
one quarter note.

As far as music and math is concerned, you may want to get into the realm of
20th century music, particularly the composer Iannis Xenakis (mathmetician,
architect, and composer) He has done pieces that have to do with the
probability theory, physical principles, and so on and so forth. Perhaps he is
a little more advanced than what you're looking for but he's the only one that
I can think of off the top of my head. (I know there's many more though, just
drawing a blank right now). That should be enough to think about for now.

Hope it helps!!
