Subj: oh no! vibrato again!

I have a question regarding the dreaded vibrato on the clarinet. I just
listened to a student down here play using a quasi vibrato; it didn't
sound like a true vibrato, but a quiver in the sound. He said that he is
a singer, and uses breath vibrato. I understood that vibrato on
single-reed instruments should be done with the jaw. I asked David
Shifrin about it once, since he is using it more and more, and he said
that he definitely uses jaw vibrato, and then matches the vibrato style
of the people he is playing with at the time. So all you vibrato users
out there!!!! Is it jaw or air vibrato for the clarinet? I'm sure that
this question has been asked and answered here many times, so just
respond to my address: dunja@-----.edu

Thanks!
