Good idea about using a VCR. I would suggest getting a VHS-HiFi system. The
specs for wow and flutter, unlike a cassette recorder, are down below the
level
of human hearing and all other specs are very close to digital quality. Such
a system costs as little at $300 although you will need a preamp or mixer
~$100
unless you get a very expensive deck with a built in level control.
