A question came up earlier about cheap ways of recording that are better than a
cassette recorder. I've always had trouble making a recording that was at all
useful with a cassette and have been looking for a way myself. I had visitors
to my house who were taping with a camcorder while I was playing in the
background. I was suprised at the sound quality of the recording (not of my
playing). I setup the VCR with a microphone ($8.00 karaoke ready) and piped
the audio through my stereo to the VCR. Overall this worked much better than
using a cassette recorder. The pitch is much more accurate. This technique is
only cheap if you have the equipment, but with the cost of VCR's these days
it's better than using a DAT. Now to make this potable. I guess that would
require the camcorder? Maybe there are deals on camcorder with broken lenses?
