In May of last year, I answered a request from Tomas Andreason, a
Swedish contributor to Klarinet, for some birthday music by sending him a
quintet for Eb, Bb, A, Eb alto, and bass clarinets entitled, "Variations
on an American Tune" by Raymond Burkhart. (I'm not certain whether the
tune in the title, "Happy Birthday," is actually of American origin as
the composer assumes.)

I mention this, because Tomas reciprocated by sending me two fine
solo pieces for clarinet by Swedish composers. If you are interested, the
pieces are as follows:

1. "Monolog nr. 3" by Erland von Koch (1975); and

2. "Sonatina" per clarinetto solo by Csaba Deak.

The pieces would require some work to prepare. But, I found both to be
first-rate works, worthy of public performance.
